The flagship

It is the bearer of our great heritage

With its dramatic presence, unsurpassed power and emotional sound, this instrument is the ultimate representative of our own expertise. Ludwig Bösendorfer's invention continues to inspire generations of classical, jazz and new music performers. The huge resonator, the largest concert festival, produces an almost instrumental sound. The extra bass in the lower octave extends the sound range and creates additional harmonic resonance throughout the instrument.

The first prototype was built in 1909 at the request of Ferruccio Busoni. He was engaged in transcribing Bach's organ music and needed deeper basses. As a result, the Imperial's sound range was created with 97 notes-eight full octaves. His extraordinary voice inspired great composers, including Bartók, Debussy and Ravel. Many composers' works require an Imperial piano to ensure they fit the original composition.
