For many, thirteen is a mystical number. In any case, it gives Schimmel's instruments a magical glow. The piano varnish is applied in thirteen layers at about one and a half kilograms per square meter and is mainly refined by hand to a high gloss.

At this point we thank Bartolomeo Christofori. He invented the hammer technique around the year 1700 and thus helped the birth of piano instruments. Since then, piano makers have been searching for the perfect hammer to achieve the perfect sound. In the case of Schimmel, outstanding attention is paid to the composition of the sound dampening sensitivities of the hammer heads. Due to the density and weight, felt is used, so the tension is simultaneous with the elasticity. Thus, the head of the hammer optimally transmits the impact energy to the strings. Felt is produced according to an old recipe, which is more complex than traditional felt production.
