During a concert in Vienna in the late 1970s, Peterson turned to Norman Granz, saying, "Hey, Norman, where's this box going?" This was the beginning of a great friendship. Peterson not only personally selected the Bösendorfer piano model, but also the Imperial 290. The Bösendorfers' 175th Anniversary concert in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna featured the tagline "A Night in Vienna". In 2002, he was honored to receive the first and only Bösendorfer Lifetime Achievement Award. The Oscar Peterson Signature Edition Grand was created in collaboration with the estate of 'Oscar Peterson', which preserves Peterson's legacy, limited to just 12 Bösendorfer Grands and available in 200 and 290 sizes. Each instrument has a Collector Edition plate featuring Peterson's lion logo and signature. Each instrument comes with a book entitled "Oscar, love", which contains compositions that have never been published.

Sit next to Oscar Peterson

In the early 1980s, the Bösendorfer Artist sat on a piano bench and pressed the "record" button. He then sang the full force, joy and expression of his musical prowess in a performance of 13 tunes. These digital recordings, which capture the extremely accurate key and pedal data of Peterson's performances, have been carefully saved and converted to a modern format. At the touch of a button, the instrument's knobs and pedals come to life, moving up and down to recreate Peterson's original performances as he played them 40 years ago. The Oscar Peterson Signature Edition Grand Player with built-in Yamaha Disklavier technology is available in the US and Canada only. Oscar Peterson Signature Collector's Edition

Introducing the Bösendorfer piano:

Resonance

In principle, it is very similar to the violin, the whole body - not only the soundboard - which supports the production of sound. The actual core of the piano bar consists of a 10mm quarter saw, specially fluted by our craftsman to allow it to be bent to a silhouette around the inner edge. This is unique to Bösendorfer. When a note is played, the integrated spruce components become acoustically active and form a full resonating body that allows the entire instrument to play. The timbre and the legendary clear and brilliant sound are extremely rich. This complex construction is part of the Viennese piano tradition.

From delicate pianissimo to magnificent fortissimo

The Bösendorfer Grand shows optimal controllability. Our activity, developed in cooperation with artists and technicians, is due to our own sophisticated specification. This action is based on the transmission of the finest articulation of masterly playing.

Custom bass strings

Each bass string is made in a unique Bösendorfer style. The steel core is a base of one or two layers of copper. Carefully woven strings are an essential element of the warm and loud Bösendorfer bass

Independent Capo d'Astro

Bösendorfer is the only piano manufacturer to use a detachable and independent Capo d'Astro in the upper register. This is how we ensure the highest precision setting in the upper register, which guarantees the original Bösendorfer Sound generations: A unique sound for several generations.

Traditional sand casting

We use traditional sand casting to create our frame. Raw frames, manufactured in Austria, can rest outside the factory for 6 months. This releases all the internal stress of the forging process, which allows the frame to remain calm under 20 tons of tensile stress. Pure stability.

Open block

The highest tonal stability: Our open pinblock consists of 3 layers of 7 mm sawn maple with cross-sections glued together. Installed on a foundation of red beech, this construction provides a solid base for pegs tied together with strings. The top layer is finished with 1.5 mm walnut veneer. Our open pin block: solid foundation.

Stringing individually

Each string is secured with a handmade loop. Over time, this improves tuning stability and is particularly service-friendly.

Natural materials

The basis of each Bösendorfer Grand is spruce, which is naturally air-dried and is the ideal soundboard. The four seasons, the sun, the wind and the wide temperature differences carefully prepare this wood for its ultimate purpose: to resonate. At Bösendorfer, we use more than 80% more spruce wood in our instruments than any other manufacturer. When we add the natural drying process to our production time, it actually takes 6 years for the Bösendorfer Grand to reach you.

Custom design

The exclusive production of nearly 300 devices per year allows us to meet your unique needs. Whether you want to use precious veneers, your favorite colors or your own logo, carefully engraved by the craftsmen: Everything is possible. Bösendorfer craftsmen create a color sample before production begins and collaborate with you during the design process. After your approval, your own unique tool is ready: A tool as extraordinary as you.

"Made in Austria"

Bösendorfer Grands are not just an investment item, but a value that lasts several generations. Skilled Bösendorfer craftsmen reveal the inner color, unique color, dynamics and expression of the Bösendorfer sound. Perfectly generated. It takes the commitment of Bösendorfer craftsmen a year to build the Bösendorfer Grand. A personal touch that you feel the moment you play. Austrian quality, Viennese soul.
