Pursuit of perfection

Koichi Kawai designed and built the first full acoustic piano performance in Japan in the early 1900s. In the decades that have followed, Kawai engineers have continued to pursue the company's founding pursuit of perfection, pioneering the use of state-of-the-art materials and designs that advance the piano as an art form.

The Millennium III piano action found in today's Kawai GX series instruments exemplifies Koichi's philosophy. This highly popular action features components manufactured using ABS Carbon, an extremely robust and rigid composite material that allows these action parts to be stronger, lighter and faster than their traditional wooden counterparts. In addition, Kawai GX series grand pianos also use extended key lengths for greater control and a smoother response from front to back of the playing surface.

The future of the piano

The Millennium III Hybrid action represents the latest milestone in Kawai's rich heritage of piano innovation and serves as the centerpiece of the Novus NV10S.

Based on the proven action design of the GX series, the Millennium III Hybrid retains the complex components and extended keys of its acoustic cousins, while replacing traditional felt hammers with individually weighted ABS equivalents. With a hybrid piano, there are no metal bars inside the Novus for these hammers to physically strike when the keys are played, so their precise movements are recorded using high-resolution optical sensors above the action.

The Millennium III Hybrid provides all the benefits of a premium Kawai piano performance within a digital instrument. Thanks to this modern technology, pianists of all levels can enjoy the unique feeling of playing an acoustic piano, regardless of the time of day or the size of their home.
